The successor of the great German U boats, the type IX submarine class was made with numerous improvements. This class was made larger compared to the previous U-boats with the addition of fuel tanks for greater fuel capacity. It enabled them to travel greater distances than their predecessor. One characteristic of this submarine class is that it can travel great distances, some of them have even been recorded to travel almost 31,500 nautical miles.

The U-IX submarine class has a displacement of 1,178 tons, when submerged, a dimension of 252.6 feet by 22.6 feet by 15.5 feet, has 6 diesel engines and an electric motor engine. The main weapons of these submarines are its 4 torpedo tubes, which are 21 inch in diameter, plus an addition of 2 torpedo tubes at its stern. This submarine is capable of carrying a total of 22 torpedoes. Other weapons of this submarine are its 10.5 cm. gun located at its deck.

A well crafted model of the German U-IX Long Range submarine is produced by the company Bronco Models. The submarine models that they are producing are created with great accuracy and resemblance to the real life German submarine.

The U-IX Bronco submarine model has a 1:350 scale and requires assembly for the parts in the model package. The model is made with high quality plastic. The model package includes decals for two versions of the submarine, the U-40, and the U-37, and an assembly guide complete with illustrations. Additional purchase of glue and paint will be needed for the completion of the submarine model. The manufacturers’ recommended age for this model kit is from 10 years old and above. This model kit should always be kept away from small children because it contains small parts that can pose a choking hazard.

The German long range submarine is an ideal model for history buffs and model aficionados alike. The historical significance of the U-IX submarines are well established in naval literature and acquiring one for your collection would be a great addition.

This great model kit from Cyber Hobby comes with not one, but two fantastic submarines for the enthusiast to build and learn about. As with all of the products manufactured by this excellent company, anyone buying it can expect high quality along with great realism.

The USS Maryland is an Ohio class submarine with nuclear capabilities, making it a vital tool in the defense of the nation, as well as a great option should the US Navy ever become embroiled in a situation requiring nuclear intervention. It was commissioned in 1992, making it a relatively new model and has seen service throughout the world.

The USS Chicago, however, is a Los Angeles class submarine, meaning it is smaller and stealthier. Although it is not equipped with a nuclear deterrent, it still boasts an impressive arsenal of weapons, including multiple torpedoes. It is nuclear powered enabling fast speeds and, like the USS Maryland, has seen service in all corners of the globe.

The models themselves are truly of excellent quality and provide all the parts needed to build these replicas. The only things that the buyer will need are some glue and paints. They are both to 1/350th scale, meaning they are of average size for a model submarine kit. They come complete with cartograf decals to finish off the model to a high standard, as well as two display stands so the modeler fine work can be shown off to all those that visit.

This model kit really is one of a kind and is the only one that is widely available to include both of these majestic craft. By buying them together the customer can be assured that they fill look perfect in each other’s company, as well as know they are getting them for a great price.

The Trafalgar Class submarine was at one point the most potent weapon in the British Navy’s arsenal. It had nuclear capabilities and was estimated to have cost nearly £200 million to build. It was deployed in many areas, including to the Falkland Islands during the war between Britain and Argentina. Those that are fans of military models can now buy this kit from many retailers so as to recreate the glory of this now decommissioned nuclear powerhouse.

There is only one kit really available that is of good quality, and that is the Airfix A03260 1/350 scale model. This kit combines great build quality with a difficulty that will challenge the beginner but also keep the more experienced modeler busy. The difficulty rating of 3 (with 25 being the highest) really does underestimate the technical aspect of this piece of kit, so be sure to have plenty of time on your hands should you wish to complete it well!

The kit is made from plastic and contains 41 parts – not too many but enough to enable the model to be very detailed. It will require painting but no special items will need to be bought for this as normal Airfix paint will suffice. The painting will be absolutely the most important part in the building of this submarine, as this will provide the detail and turn it in to an authentic Trafalgar Class submarine.

The scale of this model should also be noted, as at 1/350 scale it is on the larger side when compared to other kits. This is both a blessing and a curse, as the size will provide a great spectacle when built, but also ensures that a lot more care must be taken when building as the small details will show up more.

The USS SSN-21 Seawolf Submarine is a modern day submarine that it currently used by the US Navy as their main underwater mode of both attack and defense. It was launched in 1997 and has the capacity to carry multiple torpedoes on board. Based in Naval Base Kitsap in Washington, it has seen much service in its life. This includes deployments to the Gulf as well as missions around various other parts of the world. Now fans of this iconic and modern submarine can buy a range of different kits with which they can recreate the machine on a much smaller scale!

One of the most popular models is the one made by Bronco – a long established and highly rated company. The kit is to 1/350 scale and comes in many different pieces, with the added bonus of the inclusion of a classy display stand for the finished model. It also includes great Cartograf waterslide decals, to add to the highly detailed finish. As with most submarine models, painting is kept to minimum due to the predominantly gray color of the real life replica.

For those that love the look of this submarine but are not keen on the idea of building one for themselves, there is always the option of buying a readily completed model. The model of the Seawolf comes attached to a high quality wooden base, complete with two bronze holders to keep it sturdy. Although the price is higher than the kit above, the finish is superb and would gracefully adorn any fanatic’s shelf.

There are various other models that can be bought of this sub – including a 1/750 scale one made by Hobby Boss – but the two described above are most certainly the best that money can buy. The real life machine truly is a sight to behold, and a replica will please any avid fan.

The Russian Akula submarine has been at the forefront of Russia’s naval capabilities since 1986, when it was first deployed. There are currently eight in service, with another one currently being prepared to be sold to the Indian Navy. There were three different classes of the submarine – built between 1982 and 1991 – all of which showed significant modifications whilst also retaining the potency and effectiveness of the original design. It carries a full arsenal of torpedoes and surface-to-air missiles, as well as being nuclear powered. It is thought that these submarines are soon to be replaced, with the Graney class submarine currently being under development.

Fans of naval military models are now able to purchase the Russian Akula submarine, so that they can build a scale replica at their leisure. With the important role that it is played in post-Cold War relations with the world, this model is a must for any enthusiast.

Dumas are one of the main creators of models in the world and their version of the Akula is one of the best out there. The completed model has a fully functioning motor and can be used in water as a toy or to show off to other enthusiasts! It is 33 inches long, making it very large for a model kit, and is also made from wood instead of the usual plastic pieces. Any person who buys this will be delighted by it!

There are also other models available to buy on a smaller scale and with a lower price tag. Various companies make traditional model kits, where the end product is a plastic replica, usually in about 1/700 scale. These are far easier to build than the Dumas model, although not all of them have the ability to work underwater! They will also require a lot of painting, which is often the reason why many collectors love them so much!

The I-58 Japanese submarine served during the latter part of World War II and was the craft that sank the USS Indianapolis on 30th July 1945. Before the end of the war, though, she was captured by the US Navy and scrapped shortly after. Throughout her short service life she carried onboard 25 torpedoes, as well as 6 Kaiten manned torpedoes, although the Indianapolis was sunk by the regular sort. It was active during the Japanese attack on Guam, as well as being involved in Operation Tan No. 2 and Operation Ten-Go. The wreck now lies near to the Gotu Islands, where it was left at the bottom of the ocean by US forces.

For those that love Japanese naval history – or indeed just naval history – there is now the chance to purchase a model kit of this famous and destructive submarine. The 1/350 scale model produced by AFV Club Models is a great quality piece of kit and will happily keep even the pickiest of modellers entertained for hours up on end.

One feature that collectors will love about this model is the choice of whether to have it as a waterline or full hull display – meaning that it can be created with only the top of the craft showing, simulating it being half-submerged. There are also many photo etched parts included, that are precise replicas of the real thing and will greatly improve the look and feel of the model. Also included are all of the pieces that will be needed – including a new tooling upper hull and a pressure hull – as well as excellent instructions to guide the modeller. Not included, however, are paints or glue – any serious modeller will have plenty of those to hand anyway!

This kit would be a great present for anyone who is a fan of these kits, as it is high quality and something different from the normal British, German or American submarines that can be bought. It is also great for the person buying, as it is not expensive at all!

The I-19 Japanese submarine was a craft used in the Second World War to devastating effect against the US Naval fleet. It was not only responsible for the sinking of the USS Wasp and USS O’Brien, but also for causing significant damage to the USS North Carolina in the Guadalcanal campaign. As well as being armed with a complement of 17 torpedoes, the I-19 often assisted the Japanese war effort by transporting men and arms where they were needed, earning it the nickname the “Tokyo Express”. It was sunk in 1943 by the USS Radford and now lies 90km west of Makin Island, along with all of its crew.

Fans of World War II military history can now buy this most destructive of crafts as a model kit, which is perfect for those relatives who are looking to buy a great present for their loved one. It is of great quality and will keep the avid enthusiast busy for weeks as they recreate it in all off its scaled down glory.

The kit consists of many pieces, all of which are of a high quality standard and essential for the overall look of the submarine. There are also high quality photo etched parts that come as standard, again adding to the realism of this product. All of the parts of the submarine – no matter how small – are represented in the kit, including the pressure hull. The kit also gives the option to show the submarine in either all its glory or in a waterline pose – by which it’s meant that the submarine looks as though it is surfacing and only the top can be seen.

In conclusion, this is a fantastic purchase for any adult fan, but is probably not suitable for younger children, as it is quite difficult to build and also contains some small parts.

This German submarine was used during the Second World War, having initially been commissioned in 1938 by the German Navy. It was designed to be an improvement on the Type IX U-Boat, with this craft actually inspiring many of the features of the U-IXB. In total the Germans created 14 of these craft, of which all were destroyed before the War’s end. Only one – the U-123 – was ever used again, as it was rebuilt as the French submarine Blaison.

The German U-IXB submarine was heavily armed and made a formidable opponent, often needing multiple enemy ships to sink them. They had 22 torpedoes and six torpedo tubes, as well as a deck gun and aircraft guns. They also held up to 56 crew members, who were all needed to man the incredible amount of armaments!

All fans of naval history – especially during the period of the Second World War – will love the kit Bronco Models 1/350 German Long Range Submarine Type U-IXB kit, which is one of the best on the market. It combines fantastic details with an easy assembly that ensures that it is great for modelers of all abilities. It contains all of the pieces – including photo-etched parts – that are needed for completion.

Another great model kit for this type of submarine is made by Nichimo. At 1/200 scale it is bigger than the Bronco Models kit, but retains all of the detail and impressive quality, as well as coming at a great price! At skill level 2 it is also suitable for modelers of every ability.

The final model submarine available is the 1/700 U-Boat Type IXB U-124, Easy Model, which is made by MRC. This model is probably the best looking of all the models and comes with its own impressive display stand, so that it can be shown off to everyone who visits.

The U-99 was without doubt one of the German naval crafts that the Allies feared the most throughout most of the duration of World War II. It was commanded by Lieutenant Otto Kretschmer, who guided it whilst it sank 43 Allied vessels up to 1941. The U-99 was a type VIIB submarine and was equipped with multiple torpedoes. In total she saw eight different deployments all over the North Atlantic, until finally being destroyed by the British destroyer HMS Walker, near to Iceland. She was one of the most successful vessels of the war and a prized catch for the British Navy.

Now fans of World War II naval history can have their very own miniature replica of the U-99, with the release of the Revell U-99 U-Boat model kit. The fact that this is made by Revell, who are one of the giants of the model business, ensures that the quality is as high as possible and fans of their other models won’t be disappointed here.

This model measures 20” – which equates to 1/125th scale – making it average size for a model submarine. With a difficulty rating of 3, it is suitable to be built by amateurs and more seasoned modellers alike, with different elements to test everyone. The kit comes with everything needed to create a highly realistic replica, including a 20mm anti-aircraft gun, two rudders and dire planes. Also included is a conning tower with all of the necessary components to make it look perfect.

This item is available to buy now for a very good price indeed. It would make a great present for any military enthusiast, whether it be for Christmas of for their birthday. Also, those with some spare pennies in their pocket with a desire to buy a new kit should definitely look at this model.
