German U-Boat Type 206A Submarine Model

Type 206 class submarines are diesel-electric powered U-boats of Germany which were developed by Howaldtswerke-Deutsche-Werft AG. The design of these submarines were based on the previous Type 205 class. These submarines were one of the smallest in its class and are very agile in its mobility. These vessels were constructed during the Cold War and they were designated to patrol the area of the Baltic Sea. There are 7 U-boats that are stationed in the 1st U-boot (U-boat) Squadron in Eckernforde.

The structure used for the construction of this submarines was non-magnetic steel, in order to counter act the magnetic sea mines deployed by the enemies of Germany. The Type 205 class submarines already have non-magnetic steel in their hulls but were of the low quality because they cracked under great pressure as the submarine dives to deeper areas. The new non-magnetic steel that was used in the Type 206 class has a greater elasticity and has good dynamic strength. This vessel has a maximum speed of 17 knots and are manned by 22 personnel.
